Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions
Collect 2 lavender top EDTA tubes (note volumes above). Write on the label of the smaller tube "TBBS". Keep this specimen AMBIENT, Write on the larger tube label, "IABC", REFRIGERATE this sample. Specimens MUST arrive at MAYO within 24 hours of collection
Special Handling
One specimen must remain ambient, and one must remain refrigerated
Normal Volume
One EDTA tube with 4 mL whole blood; one EDTA tube with 10 mL whole blood.
Minimum Volume
1 mL whole blood; 5 mL whole blood (3 mL for peds patients)
