Specimen Requirements
Collect specimen in SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate up to 3 days. This test is performed on pediatric patients less than 18 years of age with a positive HEp-2 ANA. MLabs will perform the HEp-2 ANA test prior to performing the tissue ANA test; please include HEp-2 ANA results if this test has been performed at your institution. The tissue ANA test will NOT be performed if the HEp-2 ANA test is negative.
Additional Information
If the tissue ANA screen is positive, a titer will be performed at an additional charge. By ordering this test the clinician acknowledges additional reflex testing will be performed and billed at a separate additional charge if indicated. HEp-2 ANA testing is performed as the initial ANA screening test on pediatric and adult patients; this test is more sensitive than the tissue ANA. The HEp-2 also provides some useful information that the tissue ANA cannot. The tissue ANA is more specific than the HEp-2. The tissue ANA is run on all children less than 18 years of age who have a HEp-2 ANA positive homogeneous, speckled, SSA/Ro, or nucleolar pattern or atypical nuclear matrix or atypical dense fine speckled pattern at a titer of 1:80 or greater.
