    No offsite collection this is for inpatient setting only

    Special Handling

    ACTH specimen requirements: Lavendar top tube (prechilled)--sent on ice. Must arrive in lab within 30 minutes from collection.

    Alternate Specimen

    Cortisol collected in SST (serum separator tube) is preferred or red top as alternative

    Normal Volume

    ACTH: 1mL plasma
    Cortisol: 0.5 mL serum

    Minimum Volume

    ACTH: 1mL plasma
    Cortisol: 0.25mL serum
