Test Usage

Determination of the presence of A1 antigen on the red cells of a patient or donor who is Group A or AB.

Test Limitations

Red cells that can be classified as subgroups of A weaker than A2 are not differentiated by tests with anti-A1 lectin.

    Collection Instructions

    Collect specimen in a pink top tube. Send intact specimen at room temperature. Specimens are unacceptable if collected in serum separator tube, contaminated, or grossly hemolyzed. Specimens sent for Blood Bank testing cannot be split for use by other laboratories.
