Due to reagent issues, the Saccharomyces cerevisiae Antibody, IgA, assay referred to Mayo Clinic Laboratories is down effective August 27, 2026. Requests for this test will be forwarded to Quest Nichols test ID 10295 (Mayo test ID ZW131) until further notice.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae Antibody, IgA, Serum (SCERA) will not be reported in the IBDP2 panel. If ASCA-IgA is still desired, an order for the referral test Saccharomyces cerevisiae Antibodies (ASCA) (IgA) (Test ID: ZW131 Referral Lab Code: 10295) will be needed.
Approximately 50% of patients with Crohn disease have detectable antibodies specific for Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ASCA). Patients are frequently positive for both IgG and IgA isotypes. A small number of patients may be positive only for ASCA-IgG. In comparison, an isolated positive ASCA-IgA result is more likely to occur in patients without a diagnosis of Crohn disease. ASCA-IgG offers the optimal balance of sensitivity and specificity for evaluation of patients with suspected Crohn disease.
