Mayo Clinic Laboratories will begin offering Methylphenidate and Metabolites, Serum, effective September 29, 2026. This test will replace Methylphenidate, Serum (Mayo test ID RIT) referred to Medtox Laboratories.
Collection Instructions: Collect specimen in a red top tube; serum separator tubes (SST) are not acceptable. Centrifuge, aliquot 1 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) of serum into a plastic vial within 2 hours of collection, and freeze.
Reference Range: Methylphenidate: 4 – 25 ng/mL (single-dose peak plasma concentration range in children given 10-15 mg dose); Ritalinic Acid: 80 – 250 ng/mL (single-dose peak plasma concentration range in children given 10-15 mg dose)
