Effective June 17, 2026, Michigan Medicine Laboratories Molecular Microbiology lab tests, MIDGI and GIPAN, will no longer include C. diff as a test component. Orders for the C. difficile PCR & Toxin test (test ID: PCRCD) test must be ordered separately from the Gastrointestinal Panel and sent in a separate container. Raw stool is required for C. difficile testing and stool for the Gastrointestinal Panel PCR tests should be sent in Cary Blair Transport.
Results for (PCRCD) Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) testing will now include a GDH antigen component in addition to the PCR and toxin EIA result. The GHD antigen detects vegetative C. diff and has a very high negative predictive value (98-99%). A negative GDH result rules-out C. diff infection and provides a strong recommendation that treatment and isolation is not needed.
