VETERINARY SPECIMEN TESTING UPDATE
Effective May 20, 2026, Michigan Medicine Laboratories Clinical Core lab will no longer accept veterinary/animal specimens for testing at this time. This change is being implemented while we continue to evaluate our institutional approach to testing non-human specimens.
Our current assays have been validated for human specimens only. In addition, veterinary-specific reference intervals have not been established for these tests. As a result, results from animal specimens may not be clinically interpretable or appropriate for reporting under our current testing framework.
Specimens identified as veterinary/animal specimens will not be accepted for testing and may be cancelled.
We appreciate your understanding as we work toward a clear and consistent policy regarding veterinary specimen testing. We will provide additional updates if the laboratory’s position changes in the future.
