Effective March 9, 2026, Michigan Medicine Laboratories Molecular Diagnostics Lab will no longer perform FLT3 testing when the Myeloid NGS Panel (MYENG) is requested.
FLT3 single gene testing was previously ordered and performed with requests for the Myeloid NGS Panel to achieve a more rapid TAT as FLT3 inhibition may be used for initial treatment of AML (along with induction therapy) when FLT3 TKD or ITD mutations are present. However, rapid FLT3 testing is not relevant for many other indications of Myeloid NGS testing, other biomarkers have become more relevant for initial treatment (e.g., NPM1, KMT2A rearrangements, etc.), and FLT3 single gene testing is not reimbursed by some insurance plans for patients without a diagnosis of AML. If more rapid results are needed for AML patients, single gene testing for FLT3 Mutation (order code FLT3) can be requested.
