Mayo Clinic Laboratories began offering Lactoferrin, Stool by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) effective December 30, 2025. This test is used for evaluating patients suspected of having a gastrointestinal inflammatory process and distinguishing inflammatory bowel disease from irritable bowel syndrome, when used in conjunction with other diagnostic modalities, including endoscopy, histology, and imaging. The new assay Mayo test ID LCTF replaces FLACF forwarded to ARUP Laboratories.
Collection Instructions: Collect a fresh, random stool specimen (no preservatives). Refrigerate and send 5 g (minimum 1 g) immediately after collection or freeze (preferred) for longer storage.
