Effective November 3, 2025, the MLabs Clinical Microbiology Laboratory will replace the BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® Gastrointestinal (GI) Panel (22 targets) (order code GIPAN) with the BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® Gastrointestinal (GI) Panel Mid (11 targets) (order code MIDGI) for testing of stool specimens for GI pathogens.
The GI Panel Mid offers a more focused panel that retains detection of the most clinically actionable gastrointestinal pathogens, with the following benefits:
- Streamlined Target List: Focuses on pathogens with the highest diagnostic and clinical relevance.
- Improved Stewardship: Reduces detection of organisms with unclear clinical significance.
- Cost-Effective: Offers value that is covered by more major insurance payors.
The GI Panel Mid includes a refined list of bacterial, viral, and parasitic pathogens as follows: Campylobacter, C. difficile Toxin A/B, Salmonella, Shiga-like toxin producing E. coli, Shigella/Enteroinvasive E. coli, Vibrio, Yersinia enterocolitica, Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora cayetanensis, Giardia lamblia, and Norovirus GI/GII.
