Effective December 19, 2024, the MLabs Chemistry Laboratory will begin offering two new NT-Pro B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) testing options:
Cardiac Markers/Early Heart Failure Screening (order code DPBNP) is for use in detection of early stages of heart failure in patients with diabetes mellitus. This test build retains the ability to track previous NT-Pro-BNP results over time and allows customized comments for this population.
Cardiac NT-Pro-BNP (order code CPBNP) is for use to aid in the diagnosis and assessment of severity of congestive heart failure. This test build retains the ability to track previous NT-Pro-BNP results over time and allows age specific comments.
The new group tests DPBNP and CPBNP will both include components PRBNP (NT-ProBNP) and PBNC (NT-ProBNP comment) with the PBNC comment result dependent on the test ordered. The current test order code PRBNP will no longer be available as an individual orderable. Specimen collection and handling, test methodology, and billing will not change. The laboratory will order CPBNP for Add-On requests unless otherwise specified.
