Effective June 15, 2021, Enterovirus, Molecular Detection, PCR (LENT) testing will resume for upper respiratory swabs (Nasopharyngeal, nasal, oropharyngeal or throat). However, lower respiratory sources (Bronchial washing, bronchoalveolar lavage, nasopharyngeal aspirate or washing, sputum, pleural fluid or tracheal aspirate) will continue to be unacceptable to prevent inadvertent exposure of SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19. Testing will remain available for all other acceptable non-respiratory specimen sources per Mayo Medical Laboratories.
