Beta Cross Laps
Order Code: BCTX
CPT Code: 82523
Effective April 21, 2021 MLabs will bring Beta Cross Laps (BCTX) in-house.
Test Usage: C-terminal telopeptide (CTX) is generated during the bone resorption process and serves as a specific marker for the degradation of mature type I collagen. Elevated serum concentrations of beta-CTX have been reported in patients with increased bone resorption. Measurement of CTX levels is useful for monitoring anti-resorptive therapies (e.g,, bisphosphonates and hormone replacement therapy) in postmenopausal women treated for osteoporosis and individuals diagnosed with osteopenia, and as an adjunct in the diagnosis of medical conditions associated with increased bone turnover.
Collection Instruction: Collect 3 mL of whole blood in a red top vacutainer. Centrifuge and aliquot the serum into a plastic vial and ship to frozen.
Methodology: Electrochemiluminescent immunoassay
Reference Range: dependent on sex and age and pre and post- menopausal status for females.
