Effective September 30, 2019, MLabs will offer BK Virus DNA, Quantitative, Plasma (QBKV) to replace the VBKP test sent to Viracor. This test is primarily used for kidney transplant patients to prevent BK virus associated nephropathy and also has a role in bone marrow transplant patients who many develop hemorrhagic cystitis.

Specimen Collection: Collect approximately 7 mL of whole blood in a EDTA Lavender Top tube. Centrifuged and aliquot the plasma into a plastic vial. Ship the specimen frozen. This specimen cannot be shared with other testing.
