Specimen Requirements

Collection Onsite

Submit Swube or clear Scotch Tape slide preparation of perianal region. Clean ointment or lotion from perianal region before patient retires. Obtain specimen a few hours after the patient has retired or the first thing in the morning before a bowel movement or bath. Swube Tube Prep: Press the sticky side of the Swube paddle to the perianal folds and place in swube tube. Scotch Tape Prep: Transparent tape must be used; nontransparent tape is unacceptable. Press sticky side of tape to the perianal folds. Stick tape onto one side of labeled microscope slide, sticky side down without wrapping tape around slide. Package slide to prevent breakage. Stool is unacceptable.

Obtain specimen a few hours after the patient has retired, preferably around 4am or the first thing upon rising in the morning, before a bowel movement or bath. Swube Tube Prep: Press the sticky side of the Swube paddle to the perianal folds and place in swube tube. Scotch Tape Prep: Transparent tape must be used; nontransparent tape is unacceptable. Press sticky side of tape to the perianal folds. Stick tape onto one side of labeled microscope slide, sticky side down without wrapping tape around slide. Package slide to prevent breakage. Stool is not acceptable. If an unacceptable specimen is received, the client will be notified before disposal of the original specimen.
