Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

Test Usage

Detection or quantitation of Parvovirus B19. Used for monitoring of viral load to track the course of infection and response to treatment.

Specimen Requirements

Collection Onsite

Collect specimen in a lavender top (EDTA) tube. Send to Specimen Processing, where it will be spun and aliquotted. If it will arrive at Viracor within 96 hours, it can be shipped ambient. If longer than that, freeze.

Collection Offsite

Collect specimen in a lavender top (EDTA) tube. Spin and aliquot plasma into a screw capped plastic tube. Send to Specimen Processing at ambient temperature.
