Immunometric Chemiluminescence

Test Usage

Useful in the differential diagnosis of fluid and electrolyte balance, hydration status, aid in diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism.

Specimen Requirements

Collection Onsite

Collect specimen in SST tube; a calcium should be ordered with the PTHI. Room temperature transport is acceptable for 4 hours. Add-on test requests for previously processed in-lab samples will be honored for 24 hours.

Collection Offsite

Collect specimen in an SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate up to 48 hours or freeze for longer storage. EDTA plasma is also acceptable. If sending EDTA plasma, include a copy or note on the requisition the patient's calcium result performed on a specimen collected within the previous 48 hours OR send 0.5 mL serum, refrigerated, for calcium level to be performed by MLabs. Clearly mark aliquots "plasma" or "serum" as appropriate. Add-on test requests for previously processed in-lab samples will be honored for 24 hours.
