Specimen Requirements
Specimen types: throat, nasopharynx collected in an ESwab. When taking throat specimen, swab both tonsillar pillars and oropharynx. Specimen should be sent for culture before antimicrobial therapy is started.
Collect specimen from throat or nasopharynx and place in ESwab. When taking throat specimen, swab both tonsillar pillars and oropharynx. Store at room temperature and send within 24 hours of collection. Indicate specimen source and collection date/time. If an unacceptable specimen is received, the client will be notified and another specimen will be requested before disposal of the specimen.
