Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)

Test Usage

Screening for exposure to Helicobacter pylori. This assay should be performed only on patients with gastrointestinal symptoms consistent with H. pylori infection and should not be used to test asymptomatic patients.

Test Limitations

A positive test result does not distinguish between previous exposure, colonization or current infection with Helicobacter pylori. This test should be used as an aid to make the diagnosis alongside clinical evaluation and other laboratory tests.
