Test Overview
Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)
Manganese deficiency produces growth disorders, alters skeletal and cartilage formation, and impairs reproduction. Industrial workers absorb manganese mainly through the lungs.
Manganese, Plasma: <2.0 ng/mL. Manganese, RBC: 11.0 - 23.0 ng/mL.

Specimen Requirements
Collect specimen in a royal blue top (trace element) tube with EDTA (K2).
Royal blue (trace element) and/or Metal-Free aliquot tubes are available from MLabs (800-862-7284). Collect blood in a royal blue top (trace element) tube with EDTA (K2). Centrifuge and aliquot plasma into a metal-free tube within 2 hours of collection (KEEP red blood cells). Leave RBCs in original royal blue top tube (replacing original stopper). Rubber band RBC tube to plasma aliquot to keep them together and refrigerate.
