Test Overview
Atomic Absorption (Graphite Furnace)
Evaluate disorders of copper metabolism; Wilson's disease; copper toxicity.
Males: 0.7 - 1.4 mcg/ml, Females: 0.7 - 1.6 mcg/ml. Elevated to twice the normal levels in pregnancy; elevated in lymphomas, infections, rheumatoid arthritis, biliary cirrhosis, thyrotoxicosis. Low in nephrosis and malabsorption.

Specimen Requirements
Collect blood in a rroyal blue top (trace element) tube with no preservative (serum). Red top tube is also acceptable; do not use SST tube.
