Test Overview
Test Methodology

Micro-Immunofluorescent Antibody (MIF)

Test Usage

Aid in the clinical diagnosis of chlamydial infections, such as infant pneumonitis, pelvic inflammitory disease, lymphogranuloma venereum, or psittacosis.

Reference Range *

IgG: < 1:64, IgM: <1:10 A fourfold or greater rise in paired sera IgG titer indicates recent infection. The presence of demonstable IgG generally indicates past exposure.

* Reference ranges may change over time. Please refer to the original patient report when evaluating results.

Test Limitations

Not useful for the diagnosis of uncomplicated oculogenital infections because of the high incidence of background antibodies to chlamydia in the normal population.
