Specimen Requirements
A separate specimen should be collected in a sterile container without formalin and labelled with “broad range PCR” on the sticker.
Clinician must order Broad Range PCR in MiChart. The on-service resident or covering director will receive an automated page once this order is placed for review. This pager is covered Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Orders placed on off hours will be followed up the next week day.
All Broad range PCR must be approved before it is sent out. Clinician will be contacted by Microbiology attending and/or resident to discuss order during normal work hours. The Broad Range PCR send out may be held to confirm that routine cultures, or smears, are negative.
