Specimen Requirements

Collection Onsite

The requisition and blood sample should be submitted with the obstetrical patient's name and medical record number. The man's name should be noted on both the tube label and the requisition. Please send obstetrical antibody identification results if this test has been performed at your institution. Specimens are unacceptable if collected in serum separator tube, contaminated, or grossly hemolyzed. Blood Bank is not able to share tubes with other laboratories. Specimens are unacceptable if: collected in serum separator tube, contaminated, grossly hemolyzed, of inadequate volume, or not properly labeled with patient identification.

Collection Offsite

Collect specimen in a pink top tube. Refrigerate and send intact specimen. The requisition and blood sample should be submitted with the obstetrical patient's name and medical record number. The man's name should be noted on both the tube label and the requisition. Please send obstetrical antibody identification results if this test has been performed at your institution. Specimens are unacceptable if collected in serum separator tube, contaminated, or grossly hemolyzed. Specimens sent for Blood Bank testing cannot be split for use by other laboratories.
