Specimen Requirements
Please indicate specific testing to be performed (see Additional Information). Collect specimen in an electrolyte balanced heparinized syringe (available from hospital stores). Remove all air bubbles and then mix sample to prevent clotting. Remove needle and cap syringe end with an airtight cap. Place a label on the syringe that was generated through MIChart. Keep specimen at room temperature and transport specimen in a sealed bio hazard bag to the laboratory within 30 minutes of collection.
Because of delays in transit, this test is not recommended for use by MLab clients. CAP requires all blood gas specimens to be analyzed within 30 minutes of collection. To contact C&W Pediatric Blood Gas Laboratory call 734-763-2420. Specimens cannot be collected at MLabs Blood Drawing sites.
