Liquid-Liquid Extraction / Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP/MS)
Diagnosis of arsenic intoxication in 24-hour urine specimens.
TOTAL ARSENIC: <18 mcg/24 hour, INORGANIC ARSENIC: <20 mcg/24 hour. Reference values apply to all ages.

Specimen Requirements
Collect 24 hour urine in a clean, plastic container with no metal cap or glued insert and no preservative. Aliquot urine into a clean, plastic container with no metal cap or glued insert and refrigerate within 4 hours of completion of collection. Record 24 hour urine volume and collection dates/times on the request form. Patient should not eat seafood for a 48 hour period prior to start of collection. Collection must take place prior to or 48 hours after administering gadolinium-containing contrast media.
