Reference Range

Amiodarone: Therapeutic: 1.5 - 2.5 mcg/mL, Toxic: greater than 3.5 mcg/mL; Desethylamiodarone: Therapeutic: 1.5 - 2.5 mcg/mL, Toxic: greater than 3.5 mcg/mL.

Specimen Requirements

Collection Onsite

Collect blood in a red top tube; do not use SST tube. Send to Specimen Processing in a green bag, sample must be spun and aliquotted within 2 hours of collection. Draw peak levels 2 hours after dose, trough immediately before next dose.

Collection Offsite

Collect blood in a red top tube; do not use SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum or plasma into a plastic vial within 2 hours of collection, and refrigerate (preferred) or freeze. Draw peak levels 2 hours after dose, trough immediately before next dose.
