Specimen Requirements
Collect blood in a 2.5 ml SST. For maximum clinical significance, specimens should be drawn when peak serum levels are achieved (one hour following I.M. administration, 30 minutes after I.V. is complete). Trough levels may be collected immediately before dose is given. Requisition MUST be marked pre- or post-dose or pre- or post-dialysis.
Collect blood in an SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate. For maximum clinical significance, usual sampling times are Peak: 0.5 to 1 hour after the end of a 30 minute I.V. infusion (one hour following I.M. administration) or Trough: immediately before next dose is given. Indicate whether specimen is Peak, Trough, or Random level.
