Please contact the laboratory at 936-6877 for smear only or culture only requests. Usual preparation for clean catch midstream urine specimen collection. Collect first morning voided urine (preferred; random urine accepted). Low volume specimens will be held up to 7 days and pooled with subsequent specimens until minimum volume is met. Indicate current antibiotic therapy and clinical diagnosis. For optimum recovery, send directly to the Microbiology Laboratory.
Collect clean catch midstream first morning voided urine (preferred) or random urine (accepted). For optimum recovery, send immediately. If specimen must be stored, refrigerate immediately after specimen collection. May be refrigerated up to 24 hrs. Indicate specimen source, collection date/time, current antibiotic therapy, and clinical diagnosis. If an unacceptable specimen is received, the client will be notified and another specimen will be requested before disposal of the specimen.
