Isolate and identify Beta streptococci and yeast

No beta streptococci or yeast isolated.

Specimen Requirements

Collection Onsite

Specimen type: Swab of vagina, cervix, discharge, endocervical aspirate, prostatic fluid, urethral discharge. FEMALE PATIENTS: DO NOT use lubricant on speculum. Avoid contamination with normal flora from skin, rectum, vaginal tract, or other body surfaces. Remove cervical mucous first before inserting swab into endocervical canal. Move swab from side to side allowing several seconds for absorption of organisms by the swab. Return swab to the transport tube. MALE PATIENTS: are not ordered as UGG, order as WDTSG.

Collection Offsite

Collect swab of vagina, cervix, discharge, endocervical aspirate, prostatic fluid, or urethral discharge. For optimum recovery, send specimen in transport tube immediately. For Neisseria gonorrhoeae, send appropriate swab for DNA Amplification by PCR. FEMALE PATIENTS: DO NOT use lubricant on speculum. Avoid contamination with normal flora from skin, rectum, vaginal tract, or other body surfaces. Remove cervical mucous before inserting swab into endocervical canal. Move swab from side to side allowing several seconds for absorption of organisms by the swab. Return swab to the transport tube. MALE PATIENTS: are not ordered as UGG, order as WDTSG.
