Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)/DNA Probe Hybridization

Specimen Requirements
Send body fluids (0.5mL of pleural, peritoneal, ascites, pericardial, or amniotic fluid), respiratory specimens (1 mL of bronchial washing, bronchoalveolar lavage, nasopharyngeal aspirate or washing, sputum, or tracheal aspirate), spinal fluid (0.5 mL), stool (1 g), or urine (1 mL) in a sterile tube or container; send swab specimens (nasal, throat, respiratory, genital, or ocular) in M4-RT transport; send tissue specimens in a sterile container with 1-2 mL of sterile saline or M4-RT transport media. Refrigerate (preferred) or freeze.
