Specimen Requirements

Collection Onsite

Collect CSF and place in a sterile tube or container. Test can also be performed on frozen or fixed brain tissue, blood, or urine. Tissue can be from autopsy or biopsy. Suspected or diagnosed CJD or TSE must be included on each laboratory order form. In Carelink this information needs to be added to the Comment Section, in order for it to print out on the label form. Label all specimens with appropriate disease information.

A completed National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center (NPDPSC) test request form available online at http://case.edu/med/pathology/centers/npdpsc/pdf/test-request-form.pdf must be submitted with the specimen.
