Test Overview
Molecular Typing (SSO)
At the UMHS Histocompatibility Laboratory potential recipients are typed for HLA-A, B, C, DRB1,3,4,5, DQB1, DQA1 loci by medium/low resolution molecular methods (Antigen level). When a potential related or unrelated living donor is considered for transplant, the HLA typing of the donor is performed to evaluate compatibility. Donors are typed for the same HLA loci and for DPB1 in case of anti-HLA DPB1 detected on the recipient serum. The lymphocyte crossmatch assesses the level of circulating antibodies in the potential recipient that are directed against HLA Class I and/or Class II molecules of the donor.
HLA Typing is genetic typing, and the data will not change. Typing cannot be performed multiple times on the same patient or donor.
