Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) Assay

Test Usage

Establishing the diagnosis of neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and related disorders (e.g., relapsing transverse myelitis or relapsing optic neuritis) and distinguishing these disorders from multiple sclerosis early in the course of the disease.

A negative result does not exclude a diagnosis of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD).

Collection Instructions

Collect specimen in red top or SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate. Include relevant clinical information as well as ordering physician name, telephone number, and mailing address.

Additional Information

If results require further evaluation, Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) / Aquaporin-4-IgG, Serum, Titer will be performed at an additional charge. By ordering this test the clinician acknowledges that additional reflex testing will be performed and billed at a separate additional charge if indicated. Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories.
