Test Usage

Quantitation of IgE in serum is useful as an initial screening test for allergic disease.

<2 - 150 kU/L

Test Limitations

Normal IgE levels do not rule out the presence of allergic disease.

Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions

Collect specimen in SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate. Sample may be stored refrigerated up to 7 days.

Red Top Tube
Plasma: EDTA, lithium heparin or sodium heparin
Normal Volume
0.5 mL serum
Minimum Volume
0.3 mL serum
Additional Information

Note that Immunoglobulin E will not be determined when the "Immunoglobulin Quantitation" is requested; IgE must be requested individually.
