Test Usage

To aid in the evaluation of hemolytic anemias and transfusion reactions. To monitor hemolysis in conjunction with ECMO treatment or use of LVAD.

Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions

Collect specimen in a green top or SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot plasma or serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate. Any hemolysis occurring during specimen collection invalidates the test.

Alternate Specimen
This test can be performed on Urine.

0.5 mL plasma or serum
Rejection Criteria
EDTA and Citrate tubes are unacceptable as the chelating agents in these anticoagulants interferes with the peroxidase reaction. [8/05]
