The investigation of the differential diagnosis of patients with water balance disorders, including diabetes insipidus in conjunction with osmolality and hydration status

Reference Range *

Non-water deprived, non-fasting adults: <13.1 pmol/L
Water deprived, fasting adults: <15.2 pmol/L
Non-water deprived, non-fasting pediatric patients: <14.5 pmol/L

Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions

Instruct patient to fast and thirst for 8 hours prior to specimen collection (no food or liquids, including water). Collect specimen in a lavender top tube. Centrifuge and aliquot plasma into a screw capped, plastic tube. Freeze.
