Investigating an undetectable total complement (CH50) level. Investigation of patients with acquired ongoing immune processes such as lupus erythematosus. Differentiation of congenital from acquired deficiencies.

Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions

A fasting specimen is preferred but not required. Collect blood in a red top tube. Immediately after drawing specimen, place the tube on wet ice. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and freeze immediately.

Special Handling

Place specimen on wet ice immediately following collection. Must arrive in lab or aliquot and freeze within 15 minutes.

Rejection Criteria
Hemolytic or thawed specimens are unacceptable.
Additional Information

If C2 results are <15 U/mL, C3 (order code FC3, MML C3 8174), C4 (order code FC4, MML C4 8171) and C2 Antigen (order code C2AG, MML C2AG 84141) assays will be performed at an additional charge. By ordering this test the clinician acknowledges that additional reflex testing will be performed and billed at a separate additional charge if indicated. Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories.
