The MLabs Hematology Laboratory will replace order code MALPB (Malarial Prep) with new codes BPSCN and BPMNT effective December 19, 2023. The test nomenclature will be modified to include a broader spectrum of detectable blood parasites. Blood Parasite Exam is a manually run test that may be performed to diagnose and monitor treatment of blood born pathogen infections. 

 

BPSCN (Blood Parasite Examination) is for use in symptomatic patients for diagnosis of malaria, microfilaria, trypanosomes, or babesia infestation of blood. This test includes malarial antigen (CPT 87899) and evaluation of stained slides (CPT 87207). Professional interpretation (CPT 87207-26) (order code PRVM) will be added when indicated.

 

BPMNT (Blood Parasite Exam Monitoring) is for use in monitoring known positive patients and diagnosis of asymptomatic patients with suspicion for blood parasites. This test includes evaluation of stained slides (CPT 87207). Professional interpretation (CPT 87207-26) (order code PRVM) will be added when indicated.
