Michigan Medicine Laboratories Chemistry Core Laboratory will begin performing an HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibody Confirmation and Differentiation assay effective October 5, 2023. This is a reflex test that will be performed automatically on specimens with a reactive result to the HIV-1/HIV-2 Antigen Antibody Combo assay (order code HIVC) and will replace the HIV-1/HIV-2 Confirmation assay sent to Quest Valencia 91431 (order code HIV12C).
Testing will be performed using Geenius™ HIV 1/2 Supplemental Assay which is a qualitative assay for the confirmation and differentiation of individual antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2. This is an immunochromatographic assay intended for use as aid in the diagnosis of infection with HIV-1 and/or HIV-2. The test is intended for use as an additional, more specific test to confirm the presence of antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 in specimens that are reactive by diagnostic screening tests. The test should not be used as a screening or confirmatory test for blood donor specimens. Additional RNA detection tests may be ordered by the providers based on the results obtained.
