Please note that effective January 1, 2023, the University of Iowa, Molecular Otolaryngology & Renal Research Laboratories (MORL) C3 Glomerulopathy Complement Panel (C3G-CP) replaces the C3G Functional Panel (C3GFUNC)
The C3G-CP includes 1 additional biomarker, Factor D level, (as compared to the C3G Functional panel). Factor D is a serine protease produced mainly by adipocytes. Its sole function is to cleave its natural substrate, C3b-bound factor B (FB), thereby generating C3bBb and activating the alternative pathway (AP) of complement. In patients with chronic kidney diseases, factor D levels can be elevated up to 30-fold above normal and this elevation can serve as a secondary driver of complement dysregulation.

Please note that effective January 1, 2023, the University of Iowa, Molecular Otolaryngology & Renal Research Laboratories (MORL) aHUS (complement-mediated TMA) Functional Panel (aHUS-FP) replaces the TMA Functional Panel (TMAFP).
The aHUS-FP includes 6 additional biomarkers (Ba, FD, C5, properdin, factor B autoantibody (FBAA) and a fluid-phase activity assay), as compared to the TMA Functional Panel, in order to provide a more comprehensive picture of the complement profile in patients with aHUS.
